John O’Groats to Land’s End (2015)

This is the home page for our 2015 walk from John o’Groats to Land’s End.
Please use the drop-down menus to navigate to the relevant pages – here is a quick summary of what you will find.

We start with the BUILD-UP TO THE 2015 END-TO-END WALK
This explains why we decided to attempt the walk.
In particular, it explains our ‘modus operandus’ – our approach to doing this walk.

When we came to starting the actual trip, we decided to write blogs.
We called the blogs ‘Four Feet and a Fiat’ in honour of our chosen approach.
These blogs can be read (expanded and with more photos and illustrations) in DOING THE END-TO-END WALK
We have broken the trip into nine sections (e.g. Edinburgh to Carlisle).
For each section, you can choose (using the menus) to read :
– an ‘overview’ that explains our choice of route for that section (several days of walking)
– a ‘blog’ page for each of the days within that section.

Next comes a section called AFTER THE END-TO-END WALK
This covers the days immediately after the walk, plus various closing remarks.

The above sections take us to the end of our trip, but we have included three more sections – if this were a book, these might be Appendices.

Firstly, the blogs (see above) describe the experience of doing the walk each day, but they don’t explain anything in much detail. If anyone is reading this site as part of their own research into completing a similar long-distance walk, they will want to read that detail.
Therefore, we are including Michael’s notes, prepared in advance of the walk – INDIVIDUAL WALKS – DETAILED/RESEARCH NOTES

Next we provide details of all the CARAVAN SITES that we used along the way, plus some sites that we considered, but didn’t need to use.

Finally, whilst the blogs contain lots of photographs, we took literally hundreds of photos, so PHOTO GALLERIES provides a placeholder for some extra pics that we didn’t use in the blogs.
